Mrs Foster - Class Teacher

Since qualifying in 2009, I have taught across different year groups in primary school and have even taught up to Year 11 in my role working with young people experiencing barriers to attendance. I love creating supportive relationships with children and seeing them develop in confidence, wellbeing and academics.

At home, I live with my husband, who is a secondary school history teacher, our daughter, our two guinea pigs, Biscuit and Cookie, and my vast collection of novelty rubber ducks! Weekends are often spent chauffeuring to children’s parties, exploring National Trust sites or catching up with family and friends across the UK. I enjoy baking, crafts and I’m currently re-learning to play the piano. Music plays a big role in my life — my playlist ranges from Meatloaf to Rick Astley, Gladys Knight to Benson Boone — and there’s nothing better than a kitchen disco to lift the mood. I am also a keen amateur actress, although I no longer have the time to perform myself; theatre is still very much in the family and my dad proudly takes to the stage each year as a pantomime dame. When I do find a quiet moment, I love getting cosy with a scented candle and a good book.

Spellings: New spellings are given out every Friday. The children are test on Monday and Friday. The first test (Monday) involves the children simply the spelling the word in a list; the second test (Friday) is where the children should spell the words in a sentence to show understanding.

Reading: Daily reading should be recorded in their diary. Each week, the children should also write in two AF comments.

Mental Maths: Each week the children are given number facts to recall on a Wednesday, which will then be tested on the following Wednesday. Some facts will be repeated to ensure that children keep their skills 'on the boil'.

Homework: One Mathematics and Literacy based homework is given out per week, consolidating skills learnt during the week. Alternatively. the children are given projects linked to the topic from time to time.

In FUN (Fluency, Understanding and Number) in Class 4, our primary focus is to continue to practise the multiplication facts, prime numbers and squared numbers at speed. This is a crucial skill that the children will require in their learning throughout their education. Below you can find a range of video resources we use in class to support their learning at home.
