The children have loved learning about Chinese New Year. Please look at some of the photographs they have taken of their learning.
This week, we have been learning about children's rights in PSHE. We have been looking at inspirational quotes and artwork about freedoms around the world. We have thought about freedom to be yourself, freedom to have a home and feel safe, freedom to have your own ideas and freedom to learn. We have developed ideas and produced our own original artwork based on freedom. This will be displayed in school for the children to reflect upon and visitors to enjoy.
Class 1 and Class 2 had a fantastic day out at The Ice Cream Farm on Friday. When we got there we were greeted by the elves, who showed us a short film about Santa. Then we went into our workshops to do our elf training! We had to make toys. Then we had to sort them and send them down special chutes for each country. We sent presents to Spain, France, Sweden, America and Australia! Later we raced reindeer and made a special elf medal. We all received a certificate as we are now all certified elves.
Today some of our parents have been into school to learn with us in reception. Mellors have visited to help us to eat healthily. We tried lots of new exciting fruit! We all got a Dojo for trying new things which is one of our Secrets of Success. We ate cranberries, apricots, water melon, kiwi, grapes and Mrs Fowlers' favourite fruit blueberries! Then we made delicious fruit pizzas. Finally we ate our pizzas. They were very tasty!
Today Reception have completed our Meadows' Maths Challenge. It was great fun and very messy! We have used lots of maths skills such as ordering by size, estimating comparing quantities and capacity and counting. Our maths question was 'How many beans will fit onto a spoon? We had different sized spoons to compare and we also had fun seeing how many beans we could pick up with our hands! So how do you eat yours? Teaspoon, desert spoon or serving spoon and why?
Thank you to all of the families who attended the Quiz Night on Friday evening. Everyone seemed to be having lots of fun. There was certainly lots of laughter at the staff table! The children were exeptionally well behaved and were very good during the two children's rounds. I think the children did better than the adults. I know my own children did! Well done to the winning team "The Whizz Kids".Lots of people also went home happily with goodies from the raffle. The Roe family seemed to do very well! A big thank you also to our very own quiz master Mrs Cooper.
Class 1 and class 2 have been working together again. We have been learning about staying safe in Autumn. We are very lucky to have a Fire Fighter as one of our parents here at The Meadows. He came into school to talk about fire safety, especially as Bonfire Night is approaching. We also discussed general fire safety and Halloween safety for those of you who enjoy Trick or Treating! Mrs Farrand was dressed up as a Fire Fighter, and as you can imagine the children loved this!
This half term has flown by. It must mean that we have had lots of fun in Reception! The children have all settled in very well and have made new friends. They have got used to the rules and routines and are all ready to learn. They especially love the Dojos that they receive for super work and behavior.
We all enjoyed our trip to Hoo Farm. The children were fantastic. They were a credit to us here at The Meadows and to you as parents. We all stroked a baby goat and then went for a walk through the enchanted forest. The we all collected a fresh egg from the chickens. Later were were all introduced to a boa constrictor and invited to stroke her! The children loved trying new things! We then enjoyed a picnic lunch and were treated to an ice cream. There was even time to play on the adventure playground before returning on the coach.
