Science Investigation 18.12.18

Santa has had an accident, Santa and the reindeer are fine, but the toys are scattered all over the country! Lap land is now covered in snow after a heavy down fall yesterday. The elves are digging to find the toys. How can we help the elves?

This morning Class 1 have had an exciting day. First our parents came in to see our lovely work and share our learning. Then we made our mummies and daddies work very hard. They had to do a phonics lesson with us! We learned about the digraph "ch". We are so proud of our parents and carers. Because we had worked so hard together, we all deserved a treat. So Stella from AIP came into school to help us decorate some yummy Christmas biscuits. We were very creative with icing of different colours and sprinkles! We learnt how to mix icing and add red and green.

We would like to celebrate achievements at home as well as at school. Well done Flo for super gymnastics! Well done Aisha - Mae for fantastic swimming!

This week the children have enjoyed playing and learning in our role play police station. They have very enthusiastically looked for clues, found the robbers and made several arrests! As you can see there is also a lot of paperwork for the officers to complete. The children have had lots of imagine Dojos awarded. They have also practised writing skills and have used numbers in their incident reports. 

Last Thursday the whole school went to Chester Zoo. It was the first trip for Reception. We had an amazing, fun, super, happy, fantastic day out!

Class 1 have had a fantastic mathematical morning today! Thank you to the parents who came back to school for a maths lesson! I think you had lots of fun. I know that the children certainly enjoyed sharing their learning and new skills. Mrs Fowler and I were so proud of the children as they were able to articulate their learning and the behaviour as always was excellent.

Class 1 came back to school on Monday morning with lots of excitement and enthusiasm. We shared our half term news. The children talked about the firework displays that they went to and described the amazing fireworks.

This week in Class 1 we have loved our new "Power Maths". We have been introduced to new characters - Flexible Flo, Determined Dexter, Curious Ash, Brave Astrid who show us characteristics of super mathematicians! We have been learning about subtraction using our concrete resources such as Numicon tiles, pegs and ten frames. Take a look at our super learning!

Every Thursday in Class 1 we have our Guided Reading lesson. We all read a text in our groups. Today we have chosen a book from Bug Club which the children love! We use our phonics to decode and then we discuss the text using our Reading Dogs. We are finding facts and information in our books with Rex the Retriever. Year 1s are learning to sequence stories using Sequencing Suki.
