On the 11th of July, all the children across the school will participated in a sponsored Zumbathon led by Miss Blake and our Zumba leaders: Immy, Lily-May, Martha, Emelia, Molly and Lottie. The purpose of the event was to promote pupil health and fitness in a fun way, as well as to raise money for school funds. Zumba leaders are in their last year here at The Meadows, they wanted to leave a legacy behind them: brand new playground equipment (and a storage facility) for pupils to play with during break times and lunch times which are durable and will not break easily. Ideally they wanted to raise between £500 to £1000 for equipment such as: Water play for Class 1’s playground, skipping ropes, target boards, wobble boards, movable badminton sets etc.
During the course of the day, each class participated in a Zumba session where they will perform various dances inspired by Latin America. The sessions were fun and highly interactive, just like our Key Stage 2 Zumba classes that have been running afterschool every Wednesday. In addition, between 3:30 and 4:30pm we invited children, parents, family members and siblings to join us for a giant Zumbathon. It was a lot of fun and everyone showed great enthusiasm and a willingness to join in.
We also ran a competition to see who could raise the most amount of donations possible. We were very pleased with the amount of people who were sponsored. The children who raised the most amount of money were:
- Daniel (who won 2 free passes to Tru Ninja)
- Christi (who won 2 free passes to Tru Ninja)
- Alistair and Peter (who won a family pass to Dimenions)
- Tilly (who won a family pass to Dimenions)
A huge thank you for everyone who has helped to raise money! In total we have raised an amazing £985. Using this money, the Zumba leaders have been working hard to select items for our playground, which will be available next term.
Well done to the Zumba leaders who organised and led a fantastic event.
