We Are Britain - Assembly Launch

Today we launched our new assembly theme.  We are developing children's understanding of the different cultures, customs and traditions of people living in Britain.  This is one of the the school's improvement priorities this year.

We are looking at the poetry book "We are Britain" by Benjamin Zephaniah.

This book takes a look at thirteen young British people as they work, rest and play.

A quote from Zephaniah " The British are not a single tribe, or a single religion, and we don't come from a single place.  But we are building a home where we are all able to be who we want to be, yet still be British."

Today we learnt about Sam who lives in Norwich.  His Mum was born in France and his Dad was born in the Solomon Islands.  His favourite hobby is skateboarding.

Next week, we will find out about Prita who lives in London.  Her parents were born in India.
