This week, Class 1 have had so much fun learning about Chinese New Year. We have been using and exploring a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with colour, design, texture, form and function to create dragon masks and a giant dragon. We have used our imagination to create music and dance. We have performed a traditional Dragon dance.
We enjoyed tasting Chinese food and we got lots of Dojos for trying new things! Some of us liked green tea! We all made a fortune cookie to bring us lots of good luck! We also made a red money wallet as red is a lucky colour!
We used our physical skills to pick up our play noodles with chop sticks. It was very tricky!
We used the animals to act out the Animal Race. This year is the year of the Pig!
We have had great fun all week learning about different traditions and learning about cultural diversity. We have even tried to speak and write Chinese! If you would like to find out more, there is an event at The Potteries Museum to welcome in the Chinese New Year of the Pig with traditional music and dance including Dragon and Lion and Unicorn dance performances. Other activities include Chinese craft workshops, firecrackers, acrobatics and much more.It is free on 10th February from 11am - 5pm.
