On Monday 5th February, parents of pupils in Class 3 were invited to participate in a FUN Maths family workshop. The purpose of the workshop was to:

  • Inform parents about the purpose of FUN Maths sessions and the intended impact upon their children’s ability to fluently recall number facts.
  • Enable parents to understand the expectations of pupils in Year 3 and Year 4.
  • Inform parents about the times table test which will be compulsory from 2018-2019.
  • Enable children to share their learning with their parents and demonstrate how they have progressed in their recall of number facts.
  • Provide parents with fun ways to support their children at home with learning their number facts.

We began the session by providing the children with the opportunity to share their wonderful learning with their parents and look through their FUN Maths books. It was a wonderful opportunity for the parents to see how successful their child has been and how much progress they have made since September.  The children really seemed to enjoy sharing their many successes.     ’

They the parents joined their children in Class 3 and participated in their FUN Maths session. During the course of the lesson they were able to join in with the children as they practised recalling their 4x tables with speed in a range of contexts such as sing their 4x tables and playing games.

Both Mrs Edwards and I were so impressed with the enthusiasm of the children and the adults involved. It certainly proved to be a fun session where everyone was actively engaged in mathematical learning.

Thank you to all of the parents who were able to join us and for the feedback you provided which was exceptionally positive. I hope you found the session useful and you enjoyed the opportunity to share in the learning of your child.

We hope to run another FUN Maths family workshop later in the term for pupils in Class 2 and Class 4. More information will be provided nearer the time.
