Class 2 Transition Morning

Yesterday in Class 2 we had our Transition Morning when we moved into our new classes for September so they knew what their new class would be like. We began the morning with discussing what the children thought it would be like in the next year group, anything they were looking forward to or any worries they had. They all had opportunity to ask questions of which there were many! Then we created our own class set of ‘Class 2 Top Trumps’ cards which gave the children opportunity to share information about themselves, including what they like to do, what they are good at and what they would like to get better at next year. We then, of course, had a game of Top Trumps.

After this, we thought about working as a team since our new class is our new team that we are part of. We had to complete some challenges that involved us all working together and understand others. These included  passing a balloon down a line, without using your arms or hands, which was very tricky. We also had to pass a hoop around a circle with all of our hands linked together and not letting go! The children worked so well together, it was lovely to see how thoughtful they were.

Finally. We had our last team exercise. We were all given a part of a jigsaw puzzle that made a complete image. We didn’t know what this was going to be until we put it all together at the end, but each put lots of effort into our own square. The completed design looked wonderful and bright:

We discussed how the story of ‘The very hungry caterpillar’ is a bit like our learning journey and we all grow, develop and improve as we work hard.

Thomas “I enjoyed making our own Top Trumps cards because it is my favourite game.”

Bryce “My favourite part of the morning was making the puzzle because I like puzzles and it was interesting to see what the final picture would be.”

Zac “I liked that we played different games because it was fun and we worked together.”

Tilly “I liked doing the jigsaw because it looked so colourful and I had never done it before so I didn’t know what the pieces would make. It was a nice surprise – I thought it was one picture but it was actually three!”
