Last week it was anti-bullying week across the country. The theme was:
As a result, during English and PSHE Class 4 explored the media text, ‘For The Birds’ – a Pixar movie about bullying.
During the course of the lessons, the children were able to explore the different types of bullying through the text, in which the small mean birds bully the big blue bird. They purposefully move away from him, isolating him, as well as mocking and him because of the way he looks and his voice.
Furthermore, they physically bully him by pushing into him and hurting him.
We explored how the characters might have felt during the course of the movie using our red think hats. We also used figurative language (such as noun phrases, similes and metaphors) to describe them physically and personally.
On Friday, the children applied all that we had learnt during the course of the week into their Big Writes. They had to compose an email to an imaginary character (who was being bullied) giving them advice about how to deal with their difficult situation. Their responses were thoughtful and their advice reflected what they had learnt - about speaking to a trusted adult in order to deal with their situation.
'I thought the text was funny but it did also tell us about bullying and how to solve it.' - Lottie
"I though it was really good as it taught you how to solve your problems but was fun at the same time.' - Matlida
Well done children,
